Just a working dog today

A Therapy Dog's work is never done...
I have to check in and let the staff know I'm here.  They are very kind and welcoming to me.  They understand the value of my work.

I cheered up some new people and saw some old friends.  Look at the smiles I can produce.

Warmed up several laps and got lots of petting.  What a great job I have!

When I was all done I said goodbye to the staff.

Caught the elevator for mom.  Yesh mama, what happened to this shot!  You should be used to my fast action by now.

On the way out I made another new friend.

And I was pleased to help him with the door.  This is one of my favorite things to do!
It's all in a good days work   : )

Is this really a graveyard?

One of our blogging friends asked if this was a real location.

It sure is, it's the back forty of our local graveyard.  No bodies in this section yet.

Just rolling hills of grass and a few golf balls.  It is one of our secret spots, not anymore I guess!

This is a place where a dog can run to his hearts content...

and enjoy the beauty that is Alaska!  That is the Chugach Mt. Range in the distance.  Look for this photo in the Pet Olympics Frisbee competition!  We hope it's a contender.

It is 73 degrees and sunny today...feels like 85!  We are all loving it!  And we love you too!

Here's hoping we all have more than 15 years of togetherness with our best friends!

Greenhousing and Bingo update

Yeah, after weeks of clouds and rain we have a sunny day!  We have had the coldest July on record!  This last winter we broke a thirty year snowfall record.  Those of you that are complaining about the heat, come on up here an cool off!

Mama love greenhouses, the humidity and color explosions! Today we spent a good hour strolling around one of our favorites.

I love it here.  Good smells, good fun, they even have a watering hole for me!

I helped mama pick out some new additions to our garden.

Alaska State Flower - Forget-me-not

Wow, I am awash in color and scent!

So run, don't walk to your nearest greenhouse and enjoy!

Bingo update...
Bingo has been in his new home for a week now.  The couple who adopted him have another mini Aussie about the same age.  It is going well and we are going to visit him in his new home tomorrow. His new name is Riley.  Can't wait to play with him again!

I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY -Author Unknown

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels.
I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.

As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage.
I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today.
Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someones life.

She got down on her knees and made little kiss sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her.
Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.

A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.
I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor.
So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors.
So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

Bingo and the Saturday Farmers Market

Our little foster dog Bingo is in a trial placement with a very nice couple who have a Mini Aussie about the same age.  They seem to get on well together.  If that continues Bingo may have found his furever home.
We will miss that little scamp but the cats here are celebrating his exit.  The farmer's market was the ticket!  We made him a vest that said "Adopt me" and handed out cards...wow, what great responses we got.

We expect many phone calls and hope to have some other homes to fall back on just in case this one does not work out.  And we know there is a 6 year old Mini Aussie listed on Craigslist so we can direct folks to that dog as well.

We love going to the local farmers market for so many reasons...

Not only is it a great place to find a home for Bingo, it is a fun place to meet other dogs.

Shop for wonderful home made goodies...
This vendor makes creams and lotions from local honey.

Here is our favorite jam and jelly maker, her fruit combinations are Delicious!

Fresh organic vegetables are just coming in, more and more each week.

Plenty of pretty flowers and plants for sale.

Good stuff to eat, I especially like to cruise the ground for droppings!
Salmon Burgers and Reindeer dogs are the best!!!

Mama likes the Taco Truck!

And wine tasting today!  What a treat for mama, I myself am not really fond of spirits.

Fresh caught seafood, Yummy!!!

And locally grown meats free of hormones, antibiotics and grass fed.  If you're gonna eat meat, this is the good stuff.  We are gonna have a pork roast tonight.

They even have live music!  Ryker approved!
This is just a sampling of all the fun things at the market on Saturday close to our house.  Each week it just gets bigger and better!

Foster Family

Hey, we are an offical foster family.  Mama recused the cutest little mini Aussie today from the pound.  She has given him a good bath and groomed his front half...tomorrow the back half .
His new name is Bingo!  This is his pound photo.

He is settleing in well and has fairly good manners. Very loving little guy.

He is smaller than me, about 33 pounds and about 2 years 9 months of age.

The really sad thing is that this was his 4th adoption.  The last family got rid of him because the lady of the house got pregnant.  Makes us want to puke!  At least he was neutered and chipped.

Anyhoo, mama has been cleaning Bingo up, working with him and trying to find him the perfect forever home.  It is fun being a foster big brother, we get along real well.  I have so many things to teach him.  Can you believe he doesn't know how to fetch or catch a Frisbee?   Poor little guy!  But he is an Aussie so he is learning fast.
