You all may already know this but my Vets did not. There is a mutant gene called MDR1 found in some herding dogs. These dogs (and I am one of them), may experience toxicity after normals doses of certain drugs. The Washington State University can do a free test for you with just a swab in the mail. I am positive for this gene and mom always puts this on my tag and makes sure my Vet knows.
Here is a url to the WSU website http://www.vetmed.wsu.eud/VCPL

Thanks for looking out Ryker. We ordered the test. It now cost $70, but it is sooo worth it to have piece of mind.
ReplyDeleteWow! I've never heard of this, and Mom grew up with Border Collies and Australian Shepherds. She says she'll be sure to share it with Crazy Aunt J since she has an Aussie dog now!
