Bears and Summer Fun!

Oh my, where to start?  Weather here has been windy, partly sunny one day and rain the next.  Bears are out trying to take advantage of Moose calving season.  We had a brown bear spotted just one house down from us.
Unfortunately it was shot and killed the next day, very sad.

This is a photo of a black bear and her three cubs taken in Anchorage as they cross a neighborhood street.

We do not see many bears in our neighborhood so it was exciting.  We are not pleased with the outcome as the bear was not showing aggression but had just killed a moose calf.  That's what bears do, they have to eat too.

Anyhow,  when the weather is fine you know where you'll find me...
Just doing the Awesome Aussie Tuck!

And helping mama with the garden...

So I have learned it is better to be a dog in the yard than a bear in the hood.  Happy Summer!

  2. Beautiful photos!, A mountain lion was shot and killed near our house a couple of weeks ago. I don't understand why these big animals can't be sedated and returned to the wild. It makes me so sad. But seeing the beautiful and rare flying Aussie puts a big smile on my face!

  3. I remember the bears when we lived in Anchorage and one that ended up getting shot--It had just been looking for food too. It's very, very sad, and a part of my heart breaks to read it, but when I see a Mom and her cubs it balances it out.

Your photos are just beautiful! I loved this time of year in Alaska, and I'd forgotten all about the sweet 'Shooting Stars.' I had them too, and of course forget-me-nots that were also a favorite and DON'T get me started about my fuschias that I still miss... :-)

I hope you're doing well, and are enjoying your weekend!!!

  4. So sad for the bear! The bears aren't our enemies but vice versa. We humans are the ones who make their life tough and cause them homeless.

Have you had some springs on your legs? You can jump!!!

  8. You always have such beautiful pictures!

Sadly, wildlife almost always get the short end of the stick when they wander into residential areas.
