I know you're gonna love this post. I think you have seen the twins here before, they were born last year. The smaller one came a visiting...Mama calls him Sweet Pea.
Isn't he just a cutie pie?
Friendly, curious and a bit shy.
I had done a little counter surfing and took this bag outside. Can't remember what had been in it but Sweet Pea had to check it out.
Moose have to get down on their knees to eat off the ground.
Morty checking out the Moose. He doesn't look to pleased with the situation.
Sweet Pea ambling up onto the back deck...
Hey Mama, we got company! |
Holy Cow, or I guess it should be Bull in this case.
I'm not sure you should let him in, he is awfully BIG!
"WhassUp?" |
"You guys having salad for dinner, hope your vegetarians!" |
Bums rush |
OMD, he is giving me a raspberry! Maybe I should tell him we have moose meat in the freezer.
Well, that was a close encounter of the "moosey" kind! Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
.
Holy macaroni....it's Bullwinkle. How amazing is that!!!!

YOu know your killing My Vickie with this post. I mean other than me, the moose is her favorite four legged critter ever. We spend all our summer hiking in search of the great beautiful beast and you have them visit you in your back door.
ReplyDeleteOh the pain of it all.......we are so moving into your back yard.
Bert
Come on up, there is a house for sale just around the corner! We could play together everyday :)
DeleteRyker, you were so well behaved!! We woulda been barking our heads off!! He's a very handsome fellow!!
ReplyDelete-Bart and Ruby
I have to admit I did do some barking and whinning
DeleteHe is awfully big, but I would love to have a moosey friend! It's such a special place where you live.
ReplyDeleteNubbin wiggles,
Oskar
Sweet Pea si gigantic!!! You're so friendly, Ryker. Not sure whether Eva would allow him to come near her or not as we don't have such big animal around us.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words and advice. We switched Eva's kibbles to grain free lamb meal after the first vet visit; I also give her some raw chicken bones and veggies on and off. I still don't feel comfortable of giving her raw feeding as I'm afraid I can't give her a balanced diet but I'll try it out slowly. All sweet treats are in the bin now : (
I see the wonder of fatty acids now even though she just has it for about two weeks. She doesn't shed much.
U are really working hard at this, I sure hope Eva gets over this : )
DeleteThose are some incredible pictures. I can't believe how close they come to the house and you. I guess they aren't shy, are they.
ReplyDeleteJust jumpy with fast movements, These twins were born here in the neighborhood last year are are people friendly.
DeleteWOW!!! How spectacularly wonderful is this!!! These are awesome photos. Looks like Ryker was the perfect host, too. How interesting to learn the way they eat. You think kneeling like that would be painful. Very fun post!!!
ReplyDeleteI doesn't look comfortable to me either with my creaky knees.
DeleteYikes, I'd be scared of the big moose nose coming through the window! I wonder if Luna would want to try herd that moose. Pretty impressive friends you have, Ryker!
ReplyDeleteRyker does want to herd them. I do keep a close eye on him. He gets more bold when I am there.
Deletehe's so cute!!!
ReplyDeleteOMD! How cool is that! :D Sweet Pea is one handsome young moose! Ryker you and Morty were very good hosts to him :D I know if a moose came up to our door like that, my Mom would have been smilin so big her face would have broke BOL! And me, well, not sure, either high tail it to my bunker or back myself horse (or moose ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this special encounter! :D
Waggin at ya,
Roo
OMD, Ryker. That was a close encounter of another kind!! What great pictures...I bet they are hungry. You've had so much snow this year.
ReplyDeleteYegads! That is one big baby! How long does it take for a moose to be full grown? Morgan would have had some kind of apoplectic fit if that guy came up to our house!
ReplyDeleteBunny
I think about a year and a half from what I've seen.
DeleteWow! I can't believe how close he got! Awesome photos.
ReplyDeleteOMD - this was pawsitively OUT OF THIS WORLD!!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! I never saw anything like that moose in my backyard!
Sooooooo cool :)
Stewey
Okay, You most definitely win for best post I've read today!! How many folks have moose knocking on the door and inviting themselves for dinner? We suppose it's not a good idea to feed them...but they are awful cute!
ReplyDeleteWyatt and Stanzie
Ryker-
ReplyDeleteI had to share this on Facebook, Dogs with blogs...too good :D
Wyatt
Our mooses aren't the friendly - we've had a couple of moderately interested youngsters, but mostly we get Momma Mooses with youngster, and they tend to be a bit cranky, so we stay FAR, FAR away! But great moose shots!!!

PeeEss: Here are some moosies in our yard last summer: http://lizski.blogspot.com/2011/07/moosies.html
Nice shots you got of mom and baby moose. They are so much fun to watch.
DeleteWE don't have Mooses here, if we did we would all have been barking at him.
ReplyDeleteHe was certainly very cute looking.
MOlly, Taffy, Monty and Winnie
Oh my gosh! I can't believe Sweet Pea came all the way up on your deck. Wild stuff, literally!
ReplyDeleteoh my god that would scare me to death!!! your braver than me ryker, i wouldnt even have the door open a tiny bit :O xxx
ReplyDeleteHoly cow Ryker! That was a close one! The Duke and Duchess went to Northern Idaho for a few days, and everyone they met had a Moose story to tell. The Duchess thinks she would be scared if she saw one :) (You know she's just a big sissy).
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing all those awesome pictures. I'm glad you were safe.
Kisses,
Emma Rose
Wow, that is crazy to have a moose SO close to your house. EEK. Looks like he wanted to come in and play. Never knew they had to get on their knees to eat. Learned something new today.
