Things I Always Keep on Hand as a Pet Owner

I have a few things that I am never without around the house for my pets.
A good Probiotic like Fortiflora. I have a cat with Eosinophilic granuloma which is an auto immune disorder of the skin. We tried all kinds of things the vet recommended including large doses of Prednisone. What has worked is Fortiflora...it is an immune system booster. When your gut is working better your whole body is stronger. I use it when ever my pets are stressed or exposed to anything no good for them ...as in ate a mouse! Drank from the stream. Got into someones garbage, having loose stools, etc. I have also heard that adding a little ground sage to their food is not a bad idea if they have eaten something nasty.

The next item I always keep on hand is Rescue® Remedy liquid. It acts as a sedative to reduce stress. I carry a small bottle in my purse in case of an accident as stress is very detrimental to an animal in cases of trauma or injury.

I keep Traumeel oral drops to reduce the inflammation that occurs with strains, sprains, and bruises. Ryker is a very active dog and occasional pulls a muscle and homeopathic Traumeel eases his discomfort and gets him back in the action sooner.

One last product that I swear by and just kept me out of the hospital is ASAP Silver. I got bit by my moms cat recently. He had a infected toe and I was soaking it daily and squeezing the pus out of it when he bit me. It swelled up about 3 inches across(red, hotand tender), turning into cellulitis.
I started to get a red streak up my arm. I began putting the ASAP gel on it and drinking two tsp. a day and it was gone in 3-4 days. Usually cases like that end up on I.V. home antibiotic pumps for a week or two. Not fun.
Kitty got a shot of long acting Abx. and I soaked his toe in the ASAP and then put the gel on it as well...it is all healed up! This stuff is a really good antiseptic and kills most viruses and bacteria.
Their website is under construction but when they get it finished you can read about all the hospitals and research than has been done on this product. It is impressive.

OK, I'll get off my soap box now. I do not sell any of these products or profit in any way. I just wanted to share some of my favorite pet health products with my friends. I also bought VIP pet health insurance for Ryker and hope we never have to use it!

Good health and long life to all our furry friends!

  2. This is an awesome post- We've used pro-biotics for the cat before... but only in the form of yogurt! :) I love the idea of the quick sedative. It's so obvious that you're in tune with what your pup needs! :) very cool. Thanks!

  3. Pumpkin. I'm never without a can of pumpkin. Sounds crazy, but feed it to a dog with a tummy problem and he's back to normal within hours. When Ninja was a tiny puppy he ate all the cat's food and was sicker than, well, a dog. I spoon fed him canned pumpkin and within a few hours he was back to normal. We put the cat food up high and evetually the cat got over it.

    Great post- thanks!
